ATHENS KICK OFF MEETING 30/01/2014

The Kick-off meeting was held in Athens in January 30th 2014, organized by NTUA and went over well. During the meeting, all 7 Partners from their countries around Mediterranean met together at the Senate Hall of NTUA (Athens) and fired the engines of the MEDNETA Project. Among others, the official presentation of MEDNETA Project with all partners, the selection of Partner Coordinators and WP Coordinators among project's members and the coordination and organization of the Project Management Board and three MEDNETA Committees (SC, EDC and STC) were discussed. After their fruitful discussion among themselves and with the representative of JTS, they enjoyed a guide tour about the art of jewelry and the decorative arts in Greece at ‚"Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum" in Plaka (Athens).

SWOT SEMINARS

 

ATHENS SWOT SEMINAR 04/06/2014

The 1st SWOT seminar was held in Athens and was a great interactive event organized by NTUA and PP1_GIC, with over than 100 stakeholders and participants. Relative stakeholders and bodies met at the Senate Hall of NTUA and sought Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats for the sector of goldsmith in the historic center of Athens. The event saw great response and all parties committed themselves to rediscuss and / or to facilitate the conducting of MEDNETA project.

TUNIS SWOT SEMINAR 07/06/2014

The 2nd SWOT Seminar was held in Tunis on June 7, at Dar Lasram ASM headquarters and over than 70 invited stakeholders and participants attended the Seminar. ASM team provided an overview of the creative industries in the central Medina of Tunis, preliminary field research data, were presented and discussed. The research highlighted the state of ACDs in central Medina which covers an area of 100 ha. ha.

BEIRUT SWOT SEMINAR 17/07/2014

The 4th MEDNETA SWOT Seminar, hosted by GAIA-Heritage, was held on July 17th at “the Grande Brasserie du Levant” in Mar Mikhael, Beirut. The Seminar brought together creative business owners, financial experts, urban studies specialists, and civil society actors to assess the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats to urban regeneration and the creative economy in the Mar Mikhael district. The Seminar addressed two key issues pertaining to the transformations occurring in the neighbourhood: The state of the Lebanese creative economy in light of the limitations of the local market, import and export laws, as well as funding schemes. The Seminar also addressed the broader urban environment of Mar Mikhael discussing the effects of gentrification and receding public space on its ACDs.

 HEBRON SWOT SEMINAR 07/09/2014

At the 7th of September, 2014, the 5th SWOT seminar within MEDNETA project will be held in the Governorate hall of the city of Hebron, Palestine. The seminar will be attended by all the arts, crafts and design (ACDs) covered by the field research, stakeholders and different institutions. This seminar will be an interactive event organized by Birzeit University (BZU) to allow for ACDs, stakeholders and different institutions to work together, to discuss the state of the ACDs sector in Hebron city and to explore the possible ways to promote them as part of the city regeneration.

FLORENCE SWOT SEMINAR 11/09/2014

The SWOT Seminar in Florence took place on September 11th and it was fully successful. Stakeholders from Toscana and representatives of ISIA Finenze carried ​​a rich and meaningful dialogue regarding the ACD’s and the long tradition in Arts Crafts and especially Design was presented. ISIA, remains available and plans to visit the countries of the South to transmit new techniques and introducing new technologies to the traditional creation.

 2nd MEDNETA CONFERENCE ATHENS 14/12/2015

This International Scientific Meeting (2nd MEDNETA Conference) has the primary purpose of communicating to the target groups, final beneficiaries and the general public the results of the two (2) years implementation of MEDNETA Project at National, Mediterranean and European level, concerning the Cross border Dialogue which has developed to return Creativity in the Mediterranean Historical Centers.

 MEDNETA EXHIBITION BEIRUT 24/11/2015

MEDNETA Partner GAIA-heritage is launching a two week-long Exhibition titled “Weaving the Sea”, at Villa Audi (Ashrafieh), under the patronage of H.E. the Minister of Culture, Raymond Araygi, as part of the EU-funded MEDNETA Project, to reinforce creativity and the regeneration of Mediterranean neighbourhoods. The Exhibition opens on 24th November at 18:00 and ends on 5th December at 12:00 at Villa Audi, St. Nicholas Street, in Ashrafieh.

MEDNETA Exhibition “Weaving the Sea” is set to define Mediterranean design in all its traditions and know-how introdMEDNETA WEB GISucing high-flying fashion designers, ceramists, jewelers, metalworkers, artists, furniture designers, and others.

 MEDNETA ATHENS EXHIBITION 21/12/2016

NTUA, as MEDNETA Project Coordinator, is organizing the exhibition 'Weaving the Sea: Craftsmen and Designers from Across the Mediterranean Collaborate' which will take place in Athens, after the successful opening in Beirut one year ago.  
The opening event is arranged for 21st December 2016 at 3.30 pm and will last until 6th January 2017 at the Museum of the City of Athens (http://www.athenscitymuseum.gr/en/).

As you already know this exhibition is centered on the joint work of craftsmen and designers from the Southern and Northern shores of the Mediterranean, creating a common product and launching the premises of cultural cooperation at a time where this region is rocked by the crisis and violence.
Through this exhibition, we intend to present the quality of craftsmen and designers of Mediterranean cities and hence contributing to improving their products and launch a series of cooperation between the craftsmen and designers of the partner cities: Athens, Florence-Palermo, Hebron, Tunis, Valencia, and Beirut.

Last but not least, I would like to inform you that the exhibition 'Weaving the Sea: Craftsmen and Designers from Across the Mediterranean Collaborate' of Athens is dedicated to the memory of Harris Vasileiadis, a great friend and partner, Secretary General of the Panhellenic Federation of Craft Silversmiths Jewelers Watch Sellers, who passed away suddenly last year and wanted to be part of the efforts we are making within MEDNETA Project.

 CAPITALIZATION EVENT ON "CULTURAL HERITAGE AND TOURISM", ROME 3rd MARCH 2015

On 3rd March, at National Roman Museum, Baths of Diocletian, the capitalization event "Cultural heritage and sustainable tourism" took place. The event was organized in cooperation with the italian Ministy for cultural heritage and activities and for Tourism, lead partner of ArcheoMedsites Project. The event aims at analyzing and discussing key topics addressed and main results achieved by the projects financed under the ENPI CBC MED Programme 2007-2013 also in view of the strategic framework under the new 2014-2020 ENI CBC Med Programme.

INFORMATION DAY/ BEIRUT EVENT 8 & 9 MAY 2015

GAIA-heritage was told of the EU-Lebanon Cooperation days in Lebanon that were to take place on the 8 and 9 of May, 2015. It managed to be invited to take part in this event and hired a stand for this effect. Together with MEDNETA, all cooperation projects between the EU and Lebanon and some of the regional cooperation projects took part.

For the purpose of communication, GAIA-heritage printed 200 additional copies of the project pamphlet, of Mar Mikhael map and of the conclusions and recommendations of the SWOT analysis.

A banner of the project was also used to mark the stand and two members of GAIA-heritage were present throughout the two days and communicated about the project.

All the communication material produced to this effect was distributed and several discussions with other projects in Lebanon and with the public took place.

INFORMATION DAY/ HEBRON EVENT 07 DECEMBER 2015

On the 7th of December 2015, the Department of Architecture Engineering at Birzeit University, and within the project “Mediterranean Cultural Network to Promote Creativity in the Arts, Crafts and Design for Communities' Regeneration in Historic Cities MEDNETA", held an Information Day for Presenting the Results of MEDNETA Project.

The goal of the project, which was launched nearly two years ago, is to regenerate of arts and crafts in historic cities in the Mediterranean basin, and development of historical urban environment to help the revive of this crafts.
